Sacramento, CA Today, Senator Anthony J. Portantino had the honor to recognize the Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) as the 25th State Senate District Nonprofit of the Year.  GYA’s Board Chair, Shant Sahakian, and Executive Director, Karine Grigoryan, were in Sacramento to accept the honor.

The GYA design programs to build civic values and provide a foundation for youth to learn job skills and become productive participants of the workforce. Since 1993, GYA has provided o pportunities for change and growth to our community’s at risk youth, impacting the lives of over 9,300 young people by preparing them for the future workforce.

“Thousands of young individual lives have been transformed due to the Glendale Youth Alliance’s creation of partnerships between governmental bodies, educational institutions, and the business community.  Their programs are designed to provide a foundation for youth to learn job skills and become productive participants
of the workforce,” commented Senator Portantino.

GYA programs strive to empower and educate according to each individual’s unique needs by providing resources to help recognize their own value and potential. A job can change the life of a young individual seeking to find their place in the world and become self-sustaining.  GYA not only provides employment opportunities but also comprehensive services to meet their personal needs.  GYA currently operates five programs on a spectrum that provides mentored employment to over 400 youth annually.

“Our organization is extremely proud of our work and honored to be recognized by Senator Portantino as the Nonprofit of the Year.  We strive to make a difference in the community by providing job training programs to youth with disabilities, parenting youth, youth who are on probation and foster youth,” concluded Grigoryan.
