Sacramento, California – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D-Burbank) introduced Senate Bill 301 today, which will create a financial rebate program to convert gas and diesel-powered motor vehicles into zero-emissions-vehicles (ZEVs). The legislation is designed to help working families in California obtain electric vehicles while assisting California in meeting its climate goals.

Glendale, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), artist labor unions, performing arts employers, arts advocates, and Hollywood stars came together at the Antaeus Theatre in Glendale  during the “Catch Up California” rally. Senate Bill 1116, which was authored by Senator Portantino and signed into law by Governor Newsom last year, established the Equitable Payroll Fund for the nonprofit arts sector to create jobs and revitalize local economies. Today’s effort is aimed at supporting small community theatres that are struggling in the aftermath of the pandemic by funding the program.

Sacramento, CA – Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta joined Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) today during a press conference to discuss gun safety efforts and legislation that strengthens California’s conceal-carry laws. SB 2, authored by Senator Portantino, will implement significant improvements to California’s existing conceal-carry weapon (CCW) laws to address the recent United States Supreme Court decision in New York Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. The Governor and Attorney General are sponsors of SB 2.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) introduced legislation today that addresses a significant flaw in women’s healthcare insurance coverage.  SB 257 fixes a delay and absence of live-saving early detection diagnosis by expanding health care coverage for breast imaging following an abnormal mammography.

Portantino (D – Burbank) led efforts this week to submit a letter to the White House urging President Biden to take action against Azerbaijan by immediately ending military assistance and requesting that emergency humanitarian aid be delivered to the people of Artsakh who have been devastated by Azerbaijan’s blockade since December 12, 2022.
