Sacramento, CA – Senate Bill 1128, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) to combat human and sex trafficking and protect California’s youth from exploitation, was approved by the Senate Public Safety Committee today. Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto is sponsoring the bill.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was honored by the Hemophilia Council of California as Legislator of the Year. The award was presented to the Senator in Sacramento during the organization’s Legislative Day, which also marked Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month.

Sacramento, CA – Senate Bills 971 and 997, authored by Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank), passed the Senate Education Committee today. SB 971 would make higher education more affordable for low income refugees by exempting them from paying the nonresident tuition fee. SB 997 helps tackle the opioid epidemic and drug related overdoses among our youth by allowing students to carry fentanyl test strips and schools to provide Narcan nasal spray to students.

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) was honored with the Cancer Policy Champion Award by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) California Chapter for authoring Senate Bill 987, a life-saving bill signed by Governor Newsom in 2022. SB 987 – the California Cancer Care Equity Act - ensures a more equitable model of health care for cancer patients. The Oncology Nursing Society California Advocacy Summit planning committee presented the award in Sacramento.
