Senator Wright, CLBC seek applicants for 2012 scholarships

District college students and graduating H.S. seniors encouraged to apply for $1,000 awards

INGLEWOOD – Senator Roderick D. Wright (D-Inglewood) is urging college students and college-bound high school seniors from his Senate District to get their applications in for the 2012 California Legislative Black Caucus (CLBC) Scholarship Program.

All applications must be received by Friday, March 2. Postmarks will not be considered.

Each year the CLBC works to help deserving students cover their educational expenses by awarding $1,000 scholarships. Full-time students in good standing at an accredited college or university are eligible to compete for the awards, as are graduating high school seniors with written proof of acceptance at an accredited institution of higher learning. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Each applicant must submit an application, an essay and two letters of recommendation, along with either a certified copy of a college transcript or – for graduating seniors – a college acceptance letter. This information must be submitted to the legislator who represents the district in which you reside. Participating legislators include Senator Wright, Senator Curren Price and Assemblymembers Steven Bradford, Wilmer Amina Carter, Mike Davis, Isadore Hall, Holly Mitchell and Sandre Swanson.

If you reside in Wright’s 25th Senate District, please submit your application to: Senator Roderick D. Wright; One Manchester Boulevard, Suite 600; Inglewood, CA 90301; ATTN: Cine D. Ivery.

This year’s scholarship recipients will be announced no later than Friday, April 20, 2012.
